Here are some ways that I can help families navigate the special education process.

No Cost Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, we will discuss your child’s situation at school and I will be able to answer any general questions that you have about special education as it applies to your situation.  If we decide to work together, I will send you a release of information form that will allow me to receive records from and communicate with your child’s school.

Educational Records Review

I will review and analyze all relevant educational records and evaluations, help you to understand the results, and answer any questions you have. Based on the records review, we will discuss the next steps. Prior to eligibility meetings and reevaluations, I can make recommendations for evaluations and when appropriate, make referrals to specialists to complete independent evaluations.

Meeting Attendance

I am available to attend all types of meetings. With many years of experience ensuring that meetings are productive and student-centered, I can help guide you through eligibility determination meetings, reevaluations, annual reviews, progress meetings, and 504 meetings. Following meetings, I will document and make a plan to address any areas of disagreement or ongoing areas of concern.

IEP and 504 Plan Development

I will work with you and the team to develop a plan that meets your child’s individual needs, includes the necessary services and accommodations, and ensure that the goals are appropriate and measurable. I will review the plan and answer any questions that you have.

Transition Planning

In Massachusetts, transition planning for special education students begins at 14.  With years of experience working with transition-aged students and collaborating with outside agencies, I can guide families through the transition planning process and assist the team in determining appropriate transition planning goals and services.

Assistive Technology

The team should consider whether a student would benefit from assistive technology in each IEP. I have experience with various assistive technology tools for students with reading, writing, and attentional challenges and have worked with students to find AT solutions that help them to achieve greater independence and access to classroom materials. I will advocate for accessible curricular materials and work with students, parents, and schools to find assistive technology solutions.
